Airman Apprentice LaTonya Wright of Jamestown left for basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois on March 11th. She was assigned to Division 925 and graduated basic training on May 9th along with over 700 other recruits from the 9 different divisions that graduated. Her division received several honors during pass and review for their high overall scores and the division was inducted into the Recruit Training Commands "Hall of Fame" for their achievements and overall scores during basic training. Every member of Division 925 also received the Captains challenge coin at graduation. On average, only one recruit out of every 9,000 that passes through Great Lakes Recruit Training Command receives the Captains challenge coin. But Division 925 was such a stand out division as a whole that each of the 75 members of the division received the coin.
Airman Apprentice Wright joined the U.S. Navy to become a Naval Air Traffic Controller. Her next assignment will be to Naval Air Traffic Control "A School" at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. She will remain there for 16 weeks of intensive air traffic control training before being given her first duty assignment. She will then spend the next 18 to 24 months at her first duty station finishing her training under the supervision of certified Naval Air Traffic Controllers before earning her Naval AC rating and becoming a certified Naval Air Traffic Controller. Congratulations and best wishes LaTonya from your proud family and Laker Country, WJRS!
